In Black Ops, many players enjoyed Wager Matches, wherein gamers could bet Points on the outcomes of matches. Ever since the Call of Duty Points system was dropped however, it’s become clear that Wager Matches can’t make a comeback in Black Ops 2. In spite of this, Treyarch game design director David Vonderhaar has stated that there will still be similar game modes—just without the wagering. Vonderhaar calls them “party game modes.”

“Party games is how we think about that – we think about them as you and I just goofing off, having some fun in this arguably slightly silly game mode. We love making those game modes, and they’ll be a part of this game too. They just don’t have the mechanic of gambling in them in that way, because there are no CoD points.” We don’t have any further details on them at this point. Why weren’t they covered during Gamescon? According to Vonderhaar, they simply ran out of time and “just couldn’t possibly get through everything.” Hopefully if that’s the only reason, we’ll be learning more about them soon. Being as there isn’t going to be any wagering involved it’s pretty hard to picture what they might be, but maybe they’ll include zombies!
