There have been some criticisms lately that a $300.00 Call of Duty Black Ops 2 headset is a bit of a scam—and frankly speaking, you really don’t need a $300.00 headset—regardless of what it does. That’s pretty hard to debate. In fact, at that rate, do you really need computer games? But that’s the point—we buy computer games like Black Ops 2 because they are fun, which is what this headset is.

If you don’t have a ton of money to spend on entertainment, no, you probably don’t want to go out and buy a $300.00 headset. If you have a large budget at your disposal, however, why not invest in this audio showcase piece? The headset will be optimized for Black Ops 2 gameplay and will include optimized exclusive presets, a microphone monitor, and complex options that let you set the radius of sound you want to focus on and more. All in all, it’s a pretty cool device. Some of the criticism about the headset concerns the fact that it includes Dolby® Digital 5.1 Surround Sound instead of 7.1 surround sound, which at this price may seem like under-delivery. The price is set this high for other reasons, however—as we just pointed out, there are a ton of great features included in this headset, and what you’re paying for is all the work that’s gone into the customization and the optimization for the game.

So is the $300.00 headset worth the money? That depends on how into Call of Duty you are and what kind of a budget you have. This is not a good value if you’re living on the verge of poverty, but if you’re pretty well-to-do and you love Call of Duty, it could be a great purchase, one which can add a lot of fun to the game. It also showcases the amount of effort that Treyarch is putting into the audio aspect of Black Ops 2—just one of many reasons this game is going to be the most exciting COD game yet!
