One of the most exciting things we’ve learned about Black Ops 2 is that the entire class system is being overhauled. In the past, you were required to arm up in very specific ways. For example, you had a slot for tactical equipment, for primary weapons and secondary weapons, and so on. Some gamers don’t need all those slots, though. What if you don’t want any tactical weapons because you don’t use them? Well, now you’re finally going to be free to arm up in the way which suits you best.

In Black Ops 2’s class creation screen, you’ll be given a number of points that you can allocate however you want—and it no longer matters what type of equipment you spend them on. If you don’t want tactical equipment, you can get another secondary weapon instead. Or if you don’t want a secondary weapon at all, you can skip that and spend your points on something else like an extra perk instead. So what you’re going to be doing is designing a fully customized class from the ground up when you play. You won’t have to waste equipment spaces on things you no longer need, which means you can spend your points only on things which will actually help your performance in the game.

Are you excited about the new class system? Join in the discussion at our Black Ops 2 forums and let us know what you think of the new distribution system. We think this is going to do a lot to help the game appeal to players with different play styles and to engage greater interest in the game. There are also indications that Treyarch is trying to balance the game more toward team play this time around, which along with the new class system should really revolutionize the multiplayer aspect of the series.
